Susan B's Myeloma Challenge 2020
My name is Susan and I thought I would let you know about my personal Challenge. I was diagnosed in 2011, after breaking my arm pathologically. Like most Myeloma patients, I had no idea what it was!
I’ve had two stem cell transplants, been on Velcade, Revlimid, one of the Dara trials with Dex and later Pomalidamide was added. Unfortunately the Pomalidamide did not work well for me so I am off the trial. I am now on Carfilzimab.
When the 2020 Challenge was proposed, I knew that I could not walk or do anything physical but I love crafting so I decided to make cards for each of the patients who would be in the chemo rooms with me the week of the Challenge; there are 15 per room approximately. Then my daughter-in-law’s mum offered to make cards for all the nurses as well. Our daughter was here at the time and she helped me make the last few cards we required.
The nurses passed out the cards for me and my nurse that day made sure the other nurses received theirs. It was a fun project and it allowed me to participate in spite of my health challenges. Plus I felt it might just give other patients a boost. Looking forward to next year’s Challenge!
