AHS Announces Changes to Second Dose Spacing

SAMPS would like our membership to be aware of the recent changes by Alberta Health Services (AHS) to the Vaccination Schedule for Immunocompromised Patients. Please view the attached pages from the announcement.

We would like to point out in particular, that in order to book your second vaccination, you will need to contact AHS through 811. We believe that individual pharmacies will not be able to make these appointments at this time.

We have confirmed with AHS that if your initial Covid-19 vaccination was the AstraZeneca vaccine, you will need to wait 12 weeks before receiving your second dose. When asked why the interval was longer for this particular vaccine, AHS advised that research indicated this was the point at which the best immune response to the AZ vaccine develops.
